Joe Solo a.k.a. Joe Solowiejczyk. Joe has a name that you will find difficult to say, probably never be able to spell without google but you will always remember the man!

Joe Solo a Certified Diabetes Nurse, known in Ireland as diabetes nurse specialists. a Clinical Social Worker, a Family Therapist, a Motivational Speaker, Author, and Jedi Warrior. He is also president and founder of the company that produced the 2014 eBook "A Mile in My Shoes".

He's is coming to our Thrive-abetes; Thrive with Type 1 Diabetes Conference from San Francisco, California.

Things to know about Joe;

• Joe’s lived with Type 1 diabetes for 55 years and has been a diabetes healthcare professional for over 35 years with clinical & consulting experience in both paediatrics and adult diabetes, Types 1 & 2.

• Joe has dedicated his life to improving the field of diabetes care – translating his personal & professional experiences into unique patient care programs.

• Joe is a dynamic & engaging public speaker with over 300 presentations per year – a world renowned presenter to both patient and clinician audiences focusing on the integration of diabetes management & psychosocial issues.

• Joe is a trailblazer in his field – he’s respected by his peers as having developed the “Family Approach to Diabetes Management”, a unique approach to diabetes care that integrates family dynamics into standard diabetes care providing patients and their families with the tools they need to cope with and manage diabetes more effectively.

• Joe developed the first national school-based diabetes management program in the U.S.

• Joe designs and conducts educational workshops and counseling programs for both children and adults with type 1 & type 2 and leads seminars for health care professionals working in the diabetes space both nationwide and abroad.

• Joe has held full-time senior positions at companies including Johnson & Johnson, Animas, Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and Oakland Children’s hospital among others.

A Mile In My Shoes – a company founded by Joe Solowiejczyk RN MSW CDE, diabetes nurse educator and family therapist – was created to ensure that patients and families living with diabetes worldwide would have access to the most practical and up-to-date information needed to manage living with diabetes AND thrive while doing so. Joe has first hand experience with the disease as he has been thriving with Type 1 for over 50 years!

The company focuses on providing counselling services for patients. Additionally, A Mile in My Shoes is dedicated to producing fun, unique web-based presentations and learning resources for patients and their families wishing to increase their self-management knowledge base and emotional coping skills. The launching of the new e-book self-management manual, A Type 1 Diabetes Guide to the Universe, is a new and exciting part of that initiative.
